Exploring the Gender–Corruption Nexus (12 June 2025, 11:00–12:00 CET, link below)
Event Date
Corruption and gender inequality are deeply connected—and the impacts are anything but equal. Around the world, women and girls are disproportionately affected by corruption, especially when it comes to access to services, resources, and civic participation. At the same time, gender-specific forms of corruption - like sextortion - remain hidden in the shadows, under-reported and poorly understood.
Yet there is hope: evidence shows that greater women’s participation in public life is linked to lower levels of corruption. So how can we leverage this to shape more just, inclusive, and effective development?
Join the SDC Governance and Gender Networks for an engaging discussion on how corruption and gender intersect—and how we can respond. Our panel of experts will bring insights from Mozambique, Indonesia, and beyond, sharing experiences and strategies to tackle corruption through a gender-responsive lens.
Speakers include:
- Monika Kirya, U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre
- Claudia Baez Camargo, Basel Institute on Governance
- Mauricio Sulila, SDC Mozambique Center for Public Integrity (CAP), Mozambique (tbc)
You’ll also have the chance to reflect on your own experiences, connect with peers, and explore practical ways to promote inclusive governance and gender-responsive anti-corruption approaches in your work.
