OECD Ministerial Meeting on Industrial Policy
Berne, 02.06.2026 — The President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, will lead the Swiss delegation at the next Meeting of the Council at Ministerial Level of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), to be held in Paris on 3 and 4 June 2026. This meeting, themed “Getting industrial policies right for open markets, growth and prosperity”, will offer ministers the opportunity, at a time of geopolitical tensions, to discuss industrial policy, its implications and risks, as well as the OECD’s strategic directions.
This year’s OECD Council Meeting at Ministerial Level (MCM), attended by the 38 OECD countries as well as the EU and partner countries, will be chaired by Finland, represented by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The vice-chairs will be South Korea and New Zealand.
The meeting is entirely dedicated to industrial policies, which are becoming increasingly important globally against a backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties. Ministers will examine the impact of industrial policy measures on economic growth, productivity and innovation. At the same time, they will address potential risks such as market distortions, anti-competitive practices and overcapacity. The fundamental role of the state in this context will also be discussed.
The OECD’s strategic directions for the period 2027–2030 will be another key topic of the meeting. Participants will discuss the Organisation’s future priorities. The celebration of the 10th anniversary of the OECD Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean is also on the agenda. At the conclusion of the ministerial meeting, ministers are expected to adopt the 2026 Ministerial Declaration, a declaration on securing supply chains for critical minerals, and a recommendation on quantum technologies.
On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, President Guy Parmelin will take part in an informal meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). He will also use the opportunity to meet with various ministers for bilateral talks.
