Latest special coin issue: Swissmint honours 125 years of the Aero Club of Switzerland
Bern, 20.10.2026 — On 22 October 2026, Swissmint will launch the “125 years of the Aero Club of Switzerland” 20-franc silver coin. It is the second coin in the three-part “Swiss Aviation” series and commemorates the anniversary of the Aero Club of Switzerland (AeCS).

Swissmint produces exclusive limited-edition collector coins under the name “Swiss special coins”. The three-part “Swiss aviation” series began in 2025 with the “Pioneers of Swiss aviation” special coin. This issue now marks the second coin in the series. The third coin will conclude the series in 2027 and will be dedicated to the future of aviation.
The Aero Club of Switzerland and its anniversary year
The AeroClub of Switzerland was founded in 1901 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Rather than marking its own anniversary with a single ceremony, the AeCS is celebrating with numerous events organised by its clubs throughout Switzerland. On 22 March 2026, for instance, the new AeCS hot-air balloon took off from the Bundesplatz in Bern. This was followed on 30 May 2026 by a mass launch of hot-air balloons, and on 15 and 16 August 2026, Lommis Airfield hosted an open day.
The special coins bring our country's history and memories to life
The CHF 20 coin is made of a 999 silver alloy, weighs 20g and has a diameter of 33mm.
The obverse invites you on a symbolic journey through the history of aviation and gives the impression of sitting in the cockpit. Below this is a runway bearing the number 125 and the anniversary logo of the Swiss Aero Club, leading towards the central instrument panel with the years 1901–2026 in the centre of the coin. Surrounding the cockpit, the development of aviation is depicted in segments: from hot-air ballooning and gliding, through parachuting and early aeroplanes, to modern powered aeroplanes and the helicopter. The design thus combines the club's history since 1901 with the technical developments in aviation.
The reverse is identical for all three coins in the series. In the centre is a propeller that evolves into a turbine. It is surrounded by the face value of CHF 20, the inscription “CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA”, the year of minting and the mint mark “B” for Bern.
The coin is being released in a limited issue of 8,000 in uncirculated quality, priced at CHF 65. A total of 3,500 coins will be issued in proof quality at a price of CHF 110. The special coin will be available from 22 October 2026 in Swissmint's official online shop.
